Macros and You

About Macros

XIV macros kinda suck.
They’re nothing like WoW macros. They do not allow for queuing or stacking.
Because of these restrictions most good players start to believe there is no place for macros.
I’m here to tell you that’s wrong.

SMN Pet Macro

The best macro in the game hands down.
This macro preforms 2 actions.
On activation of the macro, you will tell your fairy to follow you.
You will also be given a placement marker.
Placing (Left click) with the marker will move your fairy to the marked location.
Canceling (Right click) will leave your fairy in follow mode.

/micon "Place" pet
/merror off
/pac Heel
/pac Place

This will reduce hotbar clutter by combining Heel and Place.

The Iconic AIO Travel Macro

Literally the best utility macro in the game.

  1. Ride any nearby party member multi seat mounts if available.
  2. Ride any mount in your mount roulette if available.
  3. Sprint if available.
  4. Peloton if available.
/micon "Mount Roulette"
/merror off
/aerror off
/ridepillion <2>
/ridepillion <3>
/ridepillion <4>
/ridepillion <5>
/ridepillion <6>
/ridepillion <7>
/ridepillion <8>
/ac "Mount Roulette" <wait.1>
/ac "Sprint"
/ac "Peloton"

Put it all on 1 button.
Train your brain to press it when you want to move fast.
Profit.

AIO Travel Macro (W/O backseat driver)

  1. Ride any mount in your mount roulette if available.
  2. Sprint if available.
  3. Peloton if available.
/micon "Mount Roulette"
/macroerror off
/aerror off
/ac "Mount Roulette" <wait.1>
/ac "Sprint"
/ac "Peloton"

Backseat Driver Macro

Ride any nearby party member multi seat mounts if available.

Resurrection macro

There is only one good thing about a raise macro and that’s letting your co-healer know that you’re picking someone up so you don’t both waist a swiftcast and/or mana.

However this:

/micon Egeiro

/ac swiftcast

/wait 1

/ac Egeiro <t>

/p <insert text here> <t><se.5>

sucks for many reasons

  1. It takes < 1 second to use swiftcast. This is delaying your cast of Egeiro.
  2. Macros aren’t queued, so you using this could make you fail to cast Swift or Egeiro
  3. If you miss your cast of Egeiro and don’t realize it, you might waste your Swift on a spell that isn’t a resurrection.
  4. If you miss your cast of Egeiro and DO realize it, you will now spam a second chat message and SFX when you click your macro again to actually hit Egeiro.
  5. Need a unique one for every healer.

So how can we fix it?

Honestly I just use a chat macro to notify the party of when my swiftcast will be up

/p Swiftcast up in <recast.swiftcast>

This is less of a “I’ve got it” and more of a “I need you to get it”

If you MUST use a rez macro, try this

/micon Egeiro
/merror off
/p Raising <t>
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"
/ac "Egeiro"

Yeah it looks awful, but let’s go over why it’s better:

  1. You still press swiftcast yourself, you’re not waiting for it when you don’t have to.
  2. Macros aren’t queued but who cares with 12 attempts?
  3. You’ll probably hit 1/12 of these, so I doubt you’ll have to spam chat messages.
  4. No SFX is best SFX.
  5. XIV Will not bother you about the spam of Egeiro because of merror off

You still need one for each job. So here’s a list of what it’s called for all of them:
WHM - Raise
SCH & SMN - Resurrection
AST - Ascend
SGE - Ageiro
RDM - Verraise
BLU - Angel Whisper

Healing Macros

This isn’t a joke, just don’t.
I know you WANT mouse over macros for healing, that’s what you were hoping to see here, but the fact that you can’t queue macros makes this awful.

If you need mouse over macros for your healers, use a plugin like Redirect.
This is against the TOS. Do it at your own risk.

Provoke Macros

The best provoke Macro is the one that doesn’t exist.
However, there are a few tags we can use to provoke without targeting.

/ac "Provoke" <mo> will provoke whatever target your mouse is over, this can be used on the enmity list.

/ac "Provoke" <f> will provoke whatever target you have focused.

Shirk Macros

Shirk is pretty much always used on the other tank unless you’re trolling someone.

/micon Shirk
/merror off
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>
/ac "Shirk" <2>

Cast & Gig

The existance of both fishing and spear fishing actions creates a ton of hotbar clutter.
It’s hell.
This can combine Cast and Gig getting rid of 1 item of bloat.

/micon Cast
/aerror off
/merror off
/ac "Cast"
/ac "Gig"

More on crafter macros here.

Some other ones that I have found helpful placing a manually targeted aoe at where you or an enemy is standing.

Placed healing I usually do where I am standing and placed damage I do where enemy is standing.

Was super helpful for BLU in particular since you do not want to lose time with with placing Garuda’s action with how busy your kit already is.

Another that might not be as helpful for PC players - but having a targeting macro for swaping to closest target was one of the best things I did before going into savage. Fast swaping on controller is a huge iron spike in the pee hole and it just lets me change my prio much easier. Less helpful on ranged jobs I imagine.
